Photo of Artist Janis Casco Blayer

Maui has provided a wonderful canvas of subject matter adding to Janis Casco Blayer’s studio and plein air paintings from the Northwest and her world travels. She has worked in a variety of media including oil, water color, zinc plate etching, and bronze sculpture, among others. She has studied under many internationally recognized artists, among them Leon Holmes and John Wilson (Australia), Joe Paquet, Suzie Baker, Jane Hunt, Michele Usibelli, and Morgan Samuel Price.

These days Janis mostly paints in oil with palette knife. Subject matter has varied over the years but Janis' favorites are people, animals, landscapes, and local folk. Janis' work is impressionist, capturing the curious nature of animals and personalities of people. Her landscapes evoke the mood inspired by memorable settings in nature.

Janis moved from the Northwest to Maui in 1979 and resides in Kahana north of Lahaina.
