Sadly Carole Hartley & Mikey Morinho perished in the Lahaina fire on Aug 8/23. Carole worked for Sargent's Fine Jewelry for many years as a consultant and she and Mikey cleaned the premises every night. Carole was a fun-loving, vibrant character who was always the life of the party. She lost her life when she went back to rescue her beloved dog, Coalmine. Mikey was waiting for Carole on Front St when he was overcome by the smoke. It is heartbreaking to realize they have left us forever. There was a paddle-out for Carole on August 28th (Carole's 61st birthday) at Thousand Peaks. May they rest in peace.
Carole grew up in Grand Bay Alabama. She attended Mobile Country High in Grand Bay. She lived in California before moving to Maui. She was a Maui resident for 36 years. Carole lived in Lahaina with her loving partner Charles. They have been together for 23 years. Carol was an integral part of her community. She became a scuba diving instructor and she enjoyed surfing. She volunteered with the Special Olympics and sponsored several children through the years. She was known for always helping the underdog and helping the people of her community. She will be missed by so many.
Carole's family and friends, including her sister Donna Hartley, have created a GoFundMe - The Paxton Ohana-Fire Relief Fund to raise money for her partner Charles Paxton who lost his love, his home, his car, and everything he owned to the fires. Please help if you can.
